Ray from the Velocity show Americarna, gets a tour inside Bill Mitchell’s “secret garage”. Escorted by GM Design chief Ed Welburn, Ray hears the stories behind some of the legendary cars that inspired future designers and made GM what it is today.
Welburn and Ray are graced with a handful of GM icons such as the 1959 Corvette racer, which influenced the design of all Corvettes going forward. As they step outside and make their way towards the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone, Ed tells Ray that this was the car that inspired him to become a car designer.
The National Corvette Museum notes on their site, “William L. Mitchell loved the Corvette more than he loathed the buttoned-down committee oriented culture of mid-century General Motors. As a result, GM gained enormously from Mitchell’s design genius and Bill was able to indulge his passion for drawing-and driving-fast cars.”
